Detailed Itinerary
Day 1
The hustle and bustle of an open air market at the edge of a river is one of the things that makes Africa special. As you arrive at Kasane’s little customs and immigration post at the edge of the Chobe river you will see the trading of four countries taking place as it has done for thousands of years. Hand hewn makoros are tied side by side with sleek motor boats and the women with brightly coloured traditional clothing tout their wares from baskets balanced precariously on their heads. This is the melting pot of one of the most special places on the continent of Africa. It is at this spot you will begin your African safari in an unique way in an unique manner aboard the Zambezi Queen.
Due to protracted meetings and with the blessing of the governments of both Namibia and Botswana you will be granted free passage through this post without the inconvenience of border formalities. A custom built “safari boat” will collect you from the water’s edge and take you through the game rich waterfront section of the Chobe river to where your home away from home awaits you.
After a brief registration, a safety briefing and important announcements will be done after which canapés will be served as we will take you for a sunset cruise aboard the Zambezi Queen in the area that is rapidly becoming known as the Galapagos of Africa.
Dinner tonight will be served aboard the Zambezi Queen. Under the expert eye of our resident chef every effort is made to ensure the culinary delights are in keeping with the awesome majesty of our surroundings.
Tonight you will be lulled to sleep by the orchestra of nature as reed frogs compete with the nightjars and owls for who should get Africa’s Grammy awards.
Day 2
Your early wakeup call this morning will be the unmistakeable yelping cry of the fish eagle.
Our breakfasts on board the Zambezi Queen are certainly worth waking up for. A dazzling array of dishes on the cold buffet will be augmented by hot breakfasts to order.
After your breakfasts you will be transferred back to Kasane’s immigration post where a fleet of custom built Land cruisers will whisk you off to explore the flora and fauna deep within Chobe’s famous national park.
Your return will be for lunch back aboard the Zambezi Queen as we cast off and take a long leisurely cruise to our second docking station at a spot affectionately known as Luguba.
It is at Luguba that a spot on the Namibian shore has been earmarked and a boma has been built which will enchant both your palette and your visual senses. Built to replicate a royal kraal, authenticity is the name of the game right from the decor to the cuisine. The open fronted section facing the river creates an interesting acoustic trap. It is not uncommon to enjoy a fine red wine accompanied by a superb choice of Venison while the roars of lions and trumpeting of elephants shatter the night air as each competes to be king of the beasts.
The majesty of the night sky can only truly be appreciated when one is far from civilisation and the light clutter that it generates. Our talented guides will lead you to a secluded spot where reed mats and continental cushions will provide the most comfortable star gazing platform that you will ever experience. Whilst lying prone, our star guides, by the use of handheld laser pointers, will take you through the wonders of the different constellations and provide their own African interpretation to explain the celestial march of the constellations. They will intertwine the folklore of the San bushmen with the traditional Greek astrologers and show how their ancestors would anticipate the changes of the seasons.
Day 3
After a leisurely breakfast you will be taken across to Kasenu village for a cultural interaction with the local community. It is here that you will be able to meet and interact with the dancers who entertained you the previous night at our boma evening. There will be various handcrafts on sale so remember to bring small denomination notes so you can take a keepsake of your visit home with you.
Lunch today will certainly be a memorable occasion as it is today we take you for a picnic beach lunch. Quaint colourful rustic style tents will have been erected where each couple will be given their own private structure. These unique structures each have a number of overstuffed pillows to ensure that your afternoon siesta will be one to remember. Traditional wood fired ovens will produce mouth watering delicacies which will then be delivered by our ever friendly staff right to your abode. Our delightful river front bar will produce our very own blend of cocktails as well as traditional drinks.
Right at the water’s edge awaits a new experience to thrill your senses. We have built our very own crocodile and hippo proof floating swimming pool right in the Chobe river. Nothing can compare with the concept of cooling down in the very waters that the hippos and crocs make their home.
After your lunch we begin our leisurely cruise to our home base at Cenku where the setting of the sun will provide the backdrop for another of our masterful chefs creations on board the Queen.
Day 4
Sadly after breakfast this morning our crew on board will gather together to wish you well on your return home and to allow you the time to plan your return back to enjoy yet another season on board the Zambezi Queen.
